Get a taste of what the Town of Essex has to offer with this one of a kind self-guided tour!
Start by cycling the Cypher Systems Greenway trail with your kids! Check out this map for an entry point. It's a great way to spend a Saturday morning, drifting though the greenery.
Because of the success of the initial Greenway trail, in 2001, CN donated an additional 26 kilometer stretch of abandoned rail line that stretches from Amherstburg to the urban centre of Essex and intersects with the existing Chrysler Canada Greenway.
Once you make your way into Essex Centre, be sure to stop at Vang's for lunch.
Vang’s specializes in creating fresh Oriental cuisine that will take you on a culinary journey across Asia. Enjoy tasty Thai, Japanese sushi, Vietnamese pho and classic Chinese dishes along with a great selection of desserts and beverages.
After lunch, spend the afternoon at the Essex Railway Station and learn about it's explosive past!
Two explosive events are part of the property’s history. Learn about the natural gas explosion that literally shook people out of bed on Valentine’s Day 1980, as well as the boxcar explosion that occurred just feet away from the station on a hot August morning in 1907. The station has been fully restored by Heritage Essex and is home to a variety of railway memorabilia, photographs and historical artifacts. A small gift shop is located on site showcasing written works of local authors and local artwork.
