Looking for historical connections? Genealogists and history buffs can find help at one of our historical societies.


In Essex Centre, Heritage Essex Inc. operates the historic Essex Railway Station. Drop by to view vintage photographs and to talk to resident experts on the history of the town and the railroad.

Just a few blocks south, you'll find the Essex and Community Historical Research Society housed in the historic Carnegie Library building (18 Gordon Avenue). Stop in to find out more about local families and the history of surrounding communities.

Volunteers at the Harrow Early Immigrant Research Society are the experts on the history of Harrow and Colchester South. Whether you're looking to the past for information on British and Hessian soldiers, United Empire Loyalists, or other important pioneer families, HEIRS is sure to be an excellent starting point.
